You Shall Remember

In my reading and meditations I was going through Deuteronomy chapter 8 and noticed how many times Moses was calling Israel to "remember" the Lord God. How could they forget? He had done so many miraculous things for them; delivered them from slavery in Egypt, fed them bread from Heaven, given them water from the rock, quail in abundance to eat and made them rich out of their poverty. Aren’t we, also, prone to forget all the Lord has done for us? It is good to take time to remember all He has done and give thanks. We are an incredibly blessed people.

Deuteronomy 8:18 "And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day."

He doesn’t bless us richly because of our righteousness but because we are His New Covenant children through faith. He loves us, not for what we can do for Him or offer up to Him but, because we are His beloved children. I hope as you go through the hustle and bustle of the week you’ll take time to remember from "where" He has brought you. You came to Him as a sinner and He made you a saint. You came to Him as an alien and enemy and He calls you His son. Remembering who God made you to be, liberates you from looking for life and significance where it can’t be found.
